Medical News: MRSA Found in Water Treatment Plants, Preventive Measures

MRSA Update

According to a recent medical study (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/
252403.php/) a group of medical researchers discovered that MRSA, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterial infection carried on the skin or nasal lining, has been discovered to propagate in US wastewater and water treatment plants. It’s nasty stuff that can, if untreated, become a very serious ailment to the infected individual. Some things necessary to know about MRSA:

MRSA is spread in a number of ways:

• Through the particles of an individual’s breathing, wheezing, sneezing, or coughing.
Being touched by an individual who carries MRSA, touching the skin of an individual who has
been colonized by MRSA, or a doorknob, toilet seat, sink faucet or other contaminated surface.
Sharing a towel, brush, razor, or other personal items with an MRSA-infected individual.
MRSA proliferates in environments such as hospitals, saunas, gyms, locker rooms or other warm
& moist environments.

Signs of MRSA

What are the most common signs of MRSA, or how do you know if you have acquired it? One of the most common, early stage images of MRSA looks very similar to a pimple outbreak supported by a surrounding rash. The infection is characterized by clumps of pus-filled boils and blisters. If you have any sign that may be linked to MRSA, contact your doctor or a medical professional immediately. If left untreated, MRSA may spread throughout the body and has a tendency to resist many forms of medication.

Preventive Measures

Hospitals and locker rooms are two very common environments in which MRSA develops. Last year, MRSA developed within my local hospital. Ever since I have been extremely cautious, perhaps even paranoid, as to avoid this terrible infection. Some preventive measures include the following:

• Wash your hands and take showers liberally. Obviously you should wash your hands after using
public restrooms, sinks, showers, and public medical facilities. But also make certain to use
sanitizer or anti-bacterial soap after lifting weights, using the gym, or partaking in athletic sports.
Always wash your clothes. One of the easiest ways to acquire staph is by refusing to wash
your clothes. As a high school athlete, I used to hold out from washing my socks, practice
shirts, and pants. NEVER ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN. Make sure to wash your clothes each
day following physical activity. Dry clothes completely after washing as well, and remove all
moisture before wearing clothes again.

• Never neglect open cuts. Always cover with bandages to prevent germ entrance. Never make
contact with benches in locker rooms, weight rooms, or otherwise. Lay a clean towel between
yourself and adverse surface.

MRSA is Serious

MRSA is not something to play around with. You should never personally attempt to treat MRSA.
Additional information may be attained from your doctor or physician, but outlined in this article are keys to look for and a few steps that can be taken to guard against the infection from ever getting to your body.

Ensure your children, grandchildren, loved ones, and friends are all aware of how MRSA starts and what it can develop into if left untreated.

Joe Baxter worked in medical research for the majority of his life. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling abroad, working in his wood shop and freelance writing about medical news.
Sickcare Reform in 2013...the End is Near.

Happy 2013!

We live in very interesting and quickly changing times.

Healthcare is quickly becoming, and should always have been, a major focus of modern society. Those of us whose profession is not only healthcare, but especially involvment in the current changing of the guard, are noticing some very interesting things just since the turn of the year and the now certain enactment of the in/famous 'health'care reform act.

First, there is an undeniable concern that our overall healthcare system, our health in general, and the failing economics of it all will worsen. We agree, given what is seen under the curtain of other nationalized healthcare systems, and the most important fact that the reform act is based on more of the same 'sick'care that is so badly failing. The current system lacks any true education or prevention, and is based solely on ever increasing costly and toxic amounts of synthetic medications and what should be acute and emergency care only surgeries. More of the same system that has already reached its tipping point, obvious due to its absolute unsustainability, will only make matters worse, to include our health, any chance at true wellness, and its ever increasing expenses. Already, those involved in insurance are touting expected premium increases of 40-50% over the next 2 years alone.

Second, and more optimistically, entrepreneurs are taking note. Unfortunately, doctors have been mostly segregated into a profession of drug salesman and emergency operation technicians, no doubt important for acute care. And despite the increasing number of physicians that are looking for the real answers to our failing health and healthcare system, we are obviously not powerful nor forward thinking enough to change its course. Thus, business people, seeing the end drawing closer, sense opportunity, of course to make money, but also to enact change and disrupt a failing sickcare paradigm with new more naturally health based and virtually deliverable technology. This is truly exciting for those of us on the same path. We need help to deliver true healthcare to all those in need, and it seems help is now on its way.

Last, the powers that be ( pharma / political / insurance / sick-opoly ) are losing their grip. Corporate profits are slipping, and their last attempts to regain control have been used. Somewhat like the arguments that central bankers have also fired their last bullets, insurance premiums are already at record highs and ever increasing amounts of people are reducing or canceling their policies. Medication use is fading as more are sick and tired of being chronically drugged and being offered more drugs as only answer. And finally, the mass pharmaceutical consumer marketing movement is also on its last legs...people no longer listen to the drugs being pushed, only the ever growing list of potential side effects. Gone are most of the amusing beer and wine ads on television. All that is left are the advertisments of ever desperate pharma companies ( roughly one third of ads ) pushing the dangerous drugs to counteract the illnesses the fake food ( another third ) bring to us. I suppose the last third of ads would be those endless consumerism focused sales tacticds of increasingly short lived and poorly manufactured 'stuff'. And all of these three luring people with promises of happiness and less despair. Like the economic issues, we can look to our neighbors in the East to see that there is an endpoint to this way of life, and the ends of these may be coming sooner. The time for change is now.

In essence, the game is truly up, as everyone from patients, to physicians, to profiteers is looking for new answers to our health as it is now certain that healthcare reform will bring the final chorus to those fewer still sipping wine on the top deck of the sinking ship of sickcare. The masses have left or are leaving the ship!

We are excited about 2013 and beyond. The dates of coincidence and doom are behind us. The powers that be have all control as planned, yet things continue to fade. And the failure of our healthcare system is leading the way.

As the answers become increasingly apparent and available to the masses, the tides will continue to shift in increasing speed. We are ready for a more natural and sustainable healthcare system, and to live vibrant healthy lives once again.

The answers are here and the army is building.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

Drugs, Disease, Debt and DOOM!?

Is DOOM around the corner? 12/21/2012...the great date so prophesied about over the millennia?

I don't think so, or perhaps a slight but tolerable increase in solar flare activity given the great alignment, and perhaps a few lost electrical communications for a short time similar to the minor problems that actually happened with Y2K.

BUT...there is great change afoot, and aside from increasing global political tension and war, which we feel strongly relates very much back to failing human health and abilities to simply get along and feel good, most of it revolves around these 3 D's.

We are being misled down a very unnatural path of life by the powers that be. It is a path that revolves around debt and the associated failing sick-care system, and consumptive economies it promotes.

It is all fueled by drugs and debt: quick fixes to our failing health and finances that are promised to bring happiness...that is becoming shorter and shorter lived.

The ails of our health and financial system have become so obvious its as though we all know they are failing, and that some kind of 'doom' is coming, but it is something most don't want to verbalize lest we be viewed as overly negative or doomsday believers.

In truth, it won't be a doomsday scenario, but simply a continued failure of this artificial and unnatural way of life, and an increasing number of people that simply opt-out and look for truth and the freedom of more natural, less consumptive solutions.

TV and Main Stream Media (MSM) are nearly unwatchable for information given the pervasiveness of drug and debt ads: Montel Williams selling $1000 dollar cash advances for (read the fine print) 80%! annual interest rates! Drug after drug after drug laden with side effects (the majority of quickly read dangerous precautions listed during the ads) that we are encouraged to see our local drug sales person I meant MD for....

Sad? I report on the +'s and -'s of BOTH allopathic and naturopathic medicine.

I market nutritional supplements and Celtic salt. Having been an advisor at Life Extension taught me to look for lifestyle changes in addition to the products.

My approach is to hydrate with colored salt and adequate amounts of water while eliminating known irritants like corn, wheat, soy and peanuts. My clients around the world who follow this initial protocol find that they no longer require 90% or more of their former supplements.

“Acid/Alkaline Theory of Disease Is Nonsense”

Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

You should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity. Citrus fruits, vinegar, and vitamins such as ascorbic acid or folic acid do not change the acidity of your stomach or your bloodstream. An entire bottle of calcium pills or antacids would not change the acidity of your stomach for more than a few minutes.

All foods that leave your stomach are acidic. Then they enter your intestines where secretions from your pancreas neutralize the stomach acids. So no matter what you eat, the food in stomach is acidic and the food in the intestines is alkaline.

Dietary modification cannot change the acidity of any part of your body except your urine. Your bloodstream and organs control acidity in a very narrow range. Anything that changed acidity in your body would make you very sick and could even kill you. Promoters of these products claim that cancer cells cannot live in an alkaline environment and that is true, but neither can any of the other cells in your body.

All chemical reactions in your body are started by chemicals called enzymes. For example, if you convert chemical A to chemical B and release energy, enzymes must start these reactions. All enzymes function in a very narrow range of acidity. (The degree of acidity or alkalinity is expressed as "pH."). If your blood changes its acidity or alkalinity for any reason, it is quickly changed back to the normal pH or these enzymes would not function and the necessary chemical reactions would not proceed in your body.

For example, when you hold your breath, carbon dioxide accumulates in your bloodstream very rapidly and your blood turns acidic, and you will become uncomfortable or even pass out. This forces you to start breathing again immediately, and the pH returns to normal. If your kidneys are damaged and cannot regulate the acidity of your bloodstream, chemical reactions stop, poisons accumulate in your bloodstream, and you can die.

Certain foods can leave end-products called ash that can make your urine acid or alkaline, but urine is the only body fluid that can have its acidity changed by food or supplements. ALKALINE-ASH FOODS include fresh fruit and raw vegetables. ACID-ASH FOODS include ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS, whole grains, beans and other seeds. These foods can change the acidity of your urine, but that's irrelevant since your urine is contained in your bladder and does not affect the pH of any other part of your body.

When you take in more protein than your body needs, your body cannot store it, so the excess amino acids are converted to organic acids that would acidify your blood. But your blood never becomes acidic because as soon as the proteins are converted to organic acids, calcium leaves your bones to neutralize the acid and prevent any change in pH. Because of this, many scientists think that taking in too much protein may weaken bones to cause osteoporosis.

Cranberries have been shown to help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections, but not because of their acidity. They contain chemicals that prevent bacteria from sticking to urinary tract cells.

Taking calcium supplements or drinking alkaline water will not change the pH of your blood. If you hear someone say that your body is too acidic and you should use their product to make it more alkaline, you would be wise not to believe anything else the person tells you.
http://www.drmirkin.com/nutrition/1603.html

Portable Water Alkalizer

Thanks to Mike Menkes at FreeNatureCures.com for providing this eye-opening and well written explanation to a common topic and troubling industry.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

The missing link in chronic disease care

Here is another example of how well The New Medicine Foundation's protocol is saving people from severe chronic illnesses.

Here is an excerpt:

"Just to let you know I have lost 27 lbs. and am now off of all medications which included Lexapro, zanex, prilosec. I did have my hormones balanced with Dr. Pearson and I sleep like a baby. My joints are no longer hurting. I am the client with NASH level 3 and I no longer have liver pain. That in itself is a blessing. Taking care of the Liver issue is my most critical achievement, as one more level and I would be on the transplant list."

For the full testimonial click below.

http://newmedicinefoundation.com/Testimonials.aspx

Below is more information regarding the chronic illness epidemic.

The National Health Interview Survey found that the percentages of adults now living with multiple chronic diseases has progressively increased for both men and women, for all racial and ethnic demographics, and for most income groups.

The conditions surveyed included heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, cancer, stroke, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma and kidney disease.

Now here’s an example of even worse news: very few patients succeed in managing more than one chronic condition at the same time, according to a Colorado study of 29,000 patients reported in the American Heart Association journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes.*

In order to manage their multiple chronic disease issues well, these people have to:

eat healthier than they have ever done before

exercise more than they want to

faithfully take a complex regimen of medications they have been arbitrarily prescribed

carefully monitor themselves for achievement of medical treatment goals – often goals imposed upon them by their health care professionals.

But even the patients studied who kept on top of their nutrition, physical activity, medication and self-monitoring activities had trouble maintaining “simultaneous control” over their conditions in the long term, according to this research.
So what is a chronic disease? Let’s think about diabetes as an example. This is a disease that is treatable but not curable. You can live a healthy life with diabetes, but it is a chronic medical problem that has to be managed every day without exception.
The goal is to treat the entire person and the entire disease. While diabetes has an affect on the entire body, it mainly affects the heart, eyes, feet, kidneys and nervous system. Because of this, a health care provider and the patient must work with a team of other health care specialists to ensure that all areas of the body are being addressed. This team includes an eye specialist, a foot doctor, a registered dietitian skilled in diabetes, sometimes a nephrologist (kidney specialist), and an endocrinologist (specialist in hormone problems).

To use a football analogy, the team “quarterback” is usually either an internist or family medicine doctor, or possibly may be an endocrinologist. This person is responsible for making sure all areas of the body are staying healthy. This physician ensures that the person with diabetes is seeing all the specialists needed, getting proper immunizations, taking medications properly, including preventative medications, and making sure the patient is part of this team and actively engaged in the management of this chronic illness.
This is what chronic disease management is all about: the coordination of care, the ability to ensure that all health care workers are communicating to deliver the highest quality care for the individual and to also serve as the individual’s health care advocate, educator and health coach. Research has shown that individuals with a chronic illness who are involved in a chronic disease management program do much better overall. Their disease is better controlled and the quality of that person’s life is improved.

Sources:
http://ethicalnag.org
http://www.news-press.com/article/20121101/NEWS0101/311010012/Chronic-diseases-benefit-from-careful-management?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7C%7Cs

Don't CHELATE.....DONATE!

As we embrace a new kind of natural and truly preventive healthcare paradigm, we must put a few widely used alternative treatments into their appropriate place in the treatment system.

Chelation is one of these treatments that, while widely used, really should be reserved for much further down the treatment timeline...if at all.

In a nutshell, chelation uses intravenous solutions of chelating agnets like DMSO, EDTA, and others to 'chelate' or bind to and remove minerals and other chemicals. While in theory this will remove excessive and toxic elements such as heavy metals and others, in reality the process typically removes too many natural elements as well and many must be replaced.

When explained like this, chelation would appear to be excessive and somewhat dangerous in itself...which it is.

It also entails long and frequent visits to the treatment facility, at quite an expense as well. Most chelation 'programs' involve 2-3 dozen visits that last anywhere from 1-3 hours at the cost of around $100 per session, though often doctors will engage people with package discounts.

Regardless, on average it is quite a commitment of time and money, and most importantly quite drastic in the amount of minerals and important natural elements that can be removed, and in such a way that can actually be excessive and dangerous.

The much simpler and more comprehensive way to remove unwanted elements is blood donation. This is a very easy, cheap (FREE!), and fast way to simply remove all of the parts of the blood, both good ( for recipients ) and toxic ( for donors ) a bit at a time, and let the body and good diet restore the rest. Excess iron and heavy metals will be removed gradually and gently, and the body is allowed to naturally restore its blood supply over 1-2 months as the next donation is planned. It is absolutely free and a nice community service, and takes about 30'. Most people feel very good after this is done.

Toxic elemenets like lead, mercury, and others will be removed gradually as well, and though these can be stored in deep body compartments that require more aggressive 'chelation' , cellular detoxification can be effective in removing these as well, which can be done more easily and comprehensively, and the more expensive and invasive chelation can be reserved for months later IF and only if the metal toxcity remains a problem.

Typically, as donation will continue to gently remove circulating toxic excesses, and other important areas of health are addressed (cellular detox, hormonal balance, nutritional education and restoration) the body will more effectively detox overall naturally, and the toxicities will continue to gradually be reduced as overall homeostasis is restored.

So the time and $$$ intensive chelation clinics, with rooms of people hooked up to IV treatments for hours on end, we believe can often be avoided, and the resources saved for more comprehensive natural biochemical balancing treatments. Chelation can and should be used after a foundation is reset for health, if further work is absolutely needed. But to use it for first line health is not appropriate, and is often a sign of a clinic not focused on comprehensive foundational health.

While there is benefit to chelation at the appropriate time, blood donation (when able) is a much easier and better way to 'cleanse' some basic excesses from the body while providing a necessary community service.

And until there is much more science to support its use, not to mention ease and cost and time effectiveness, chelation treatments should be reserved for after foundational biochemical, hormonal, and nutritional health education and treatment.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

Natural Health Seekers Beware

The trend towards natural healthcare continue to increase, now with the majority of people spending more healthcare dollars on complimentary and alternative treatments. However, a new and worrisome finding is that most practitioners who are trying to 'follow the trend' and practice more natural healthcare are either 1. receiving the wrong training, 2. receiving no training, or 3. in it only for the money.

We have yet to find ONE physicians group that is accurately balancing hormones in this country. As well we have yet to find ONE physician or weight loss coaching group that is using a correct protocol with or without hcg. And unfortunately, doctors that are in it for the right reason simply have not put the pieces of the puzzle together to enable them to deliver efficient and effective natural care.

As a result, nearly every patient that comes to NMF for care after treatment from another physician group, to include ACAM, A4M, IFM, AAMG, BodyLogic, TS Wiley Protocol, Cenegenics, Forever Health, and others, not to mention the plethora of typically untrained and not medically backed 'hcg Coaches' delivering a substandard product and service, are typically MORE imbalanced than they would have been had we been able to treat them initially.

This is what led us to the formation of the New Medicine Foundation. While we had discovered bits and pieces of the healthcare solutions form various groups, and much from years of practice with ourselves and our patients, we could not find any one group that had combined the key components of restoring biochemical health, while truly detoxifying the body and educating the patient to empower them for a future of health and vitality.

It is now time for NMF to become the educational healing center it was formed to become. We are asking for the help of our wonderful patients around the world to guide others to the high standard of care they deserve, and to share their successes and results with not only their friends, family, and loved ones, but also with their physicians as we build a team of practitioners able to deliver this care to the world.

Their is a beautiful blend of art and science to natural care, and we feel we are on the cutting edge of this at NMF. While we will never stop learning and honing our skills, our evaluation knowledge, treatment abilities, patient communication and education, and virtual healthcare delivery systems are second to none. We are hopeful that with your help, we can now expand our team of doctors and health coaches in order to stop the excessive hormonal, dangerous weight loss, and complete lack educational healthcare that we are seeing in increasing amounts from these other groups. We will never, however, succumb to the wasteful excesses of mass marketing and mainstream media, and will always look to our internal referral network of our thousands of past and current patients to continue to build this much needed natural healthcare system. This truly is the healthcare of the future, and is sustainable in every way.

We thank all of those who have regained their health and vitality with us, and now ask that you help us help others and quickly build this health group in order to save others from unnecessary, excessive, and dangerous care while even being touted as 'natural'. Only in this way can we more quickly right the sinking health and economic ships of America.

This is the year to turn the tide of failing healthcare.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

NMF HealthCare Reform Proposal

There is simply no way we can 'adjust' our current healthcare system out of its doomed future. It is a behemoth of a ship that is already caught in the increasing flow as it nears the whirlpool abyss / waterfall / cliff. It is not a correctable system. As with the doomed financial system, which is now accelerating towards its demise with every additional debt dollar created that only adds to its demise instead of helping it, our sickcare system is accelerating towards its own doom with every unnecessary test, symptoms management medication, and insurance / FDA / Pharma regulation / special alliance created. I laugh that we even waste time and resources discussing the possibility of a Medicare overhaul or the implementation of the newly proposed system...there will simply be never enough money or health created to become a sustainable system. And as all are still based on 'sick care', as with the debt based global economic crisis, the synthetic / toxic / medication / intervention based system only continues to add to its crushing economic weight and chronic illness demise. As so many draw correlations to, every patient treated in this manner simply pours more fuel on the fire until the patient expires in a lump of toxic degeneration called 'inevitable' chronic illness, just as more debt will result in an ultimate implosion of our current economic ways.

I see direct similarities in the way in which each additional sick-care short term remedy actually adds to the patients failing health. Each drug and surgical procedure adds toxicity, neglect, and denial of the true underlying health condition. As a result the true health of the patients declines at an accelerated rate. Obviously this is not sustainable in regards to their health or the economics of their care. As fractals are often described, this is true when observing one patient, a nation of patients, or our entire modern civilization and state of health of humanity.

So we must first understand this and the idea that the giant sinking ship of sickcare is simply not savable. The entire system must go. The crushing weight of insurance regulations, paperwork, government involvement, medicare, medicaid, the proposed healthcare reform, FDA, Pharma, etc is doomed for implosion. The ship must be allowed to sink into the sea where it will hopefully be cleansed by the natural processes of failure. Or perhaps it will be brought to port, broken up and sold as parts still useable for acute / emergency care needs. The more we attempt to keep it afloat with more fuel for the engines, more pumps to try to keep the rushing waters out, and more artificial paint and decorations to make it appear as if 'all is ok and the system works, medicare and our healthcare system is the best in the world', the more dramatic and chaotic the final failure will be. We will continue to see more illness, more economic unsustainability, more cost increases, and more invasive, toxic or even, genetically dangerous treatments. Again, as in the closely related economic impending doom with which healthcare is so linked and very much at cause, the end is undeniable, only the how and when is an uncertainty.

So when reading proposed solutions, though very well thought out and described, I see no reality to these chances.

The only answer, as it is with our failing economics, is that a new system must be created; a new system from the ground up, with new planning, blueprints, materials, propulsion, systems, and crew. Much of the old parts of the emergency care machine are simply unable to comprehend or work within this new natural health restoring, preventive paradigm.

We have to separate out completely the acute / emergency care needs from the new prevention and natural healthcare based system. Of course, in a perfect world the powers that be would simply recognize the need for preventive healing care. It would be provided for any new patient or insurance client, when first making contact with a physician or insurance agent in the old system. But that will never happen. Of course it would make complete sense, that investing a minimal cost in natural healthcare and patient / family education first and foremost would save exponentially in the future from the reduced need for the standard plethora of unnecessary tests, doctor visits, drug and surgical based treatments, and ultimately unsustainble chronic illness care that is what we offer today. But that will never happen, just as true financial reform will never happen, as it is not in the best interest of the powers that be. The elites of big pharma / government / insurance that control and benefit from the excessive profits of the system that are ultimately parasitically killing the system, and its patients will never allow it.

The new system is simple. Upon first contact as described above, patient complaints and symptoms, again if not acute care or emergent in nature, are used as the starting point for comprehensive and holistic health evaluation. The true causes of the patient complaints, whether obesity, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, or even a later stage chronic illness (again non-emergent) such as Alzheimer's, osteoporosis, and heart disease are discovered and set on the path for correction. Patient and family education is a must and provided for. True health and patient empowerment is restored. Along with this, patient education on these issues is encouraged to be included in other forms of education, from primary schools to high end collegiate degrees (much deeper and separate issues). The costs for this initial care are minimal, and always much less than the first 'real' ER visit need from a patient in the sickcare system. And within this cost health can nearly always be restored and future illness prevented. In reality 'always' may mean more than half of the time, though within our practice we see standardly a 75-90% improvement within a year and very reasonable treatment cost maximum for our patients, and even those very far from true health with decades of chronic illness management. The treatment time is 3 months for an 'average' first time patient, at an expense of $2-4000 overall and inclusive. All patients say this cost is immediately recovered in reduced costs of living, healthcare, insurance, and other. Sustainable low cost living is a side effect of real health.

The care is already available and affordable. A new 'insurance' system based on this care can be created, and is already being provided for by a few forward thinking physicians. Once initial health is restored for a minimal investment, a watchful eye is kept on the patient with standard testing and follow up preventatively for a minimal cost, say $100 monthly instead of the much more expensive 'wait to get sick and have expensive life saving care' insurance costs, that are escalating rapidly and covering less emergency care ever year, in the name of the ever present corporate profits. That 'catastrophic' insurance can and should still be encouraged, but at a much lower overall cost and premium as there is a greatly reduced chance of ever getting a life threatening chronic illness, though emergency's and accidents will always happen and should be insured against.

As a result of this many sustainable things happen, that physicians who already practice this way see on a daily basis:

1. True health is restored, and quickly. Most common healthcare symptoms and chronic illnesses reverse and / or are prevented.

2. The education of experience of natural healing is very contagious, and friends and family become interested. Children benefit most with a solid foundation of health understanding and sustainable living practices.

3. Consumption in all ways is greatly reduced. Drug use, both street and medicinal, is nearly eradicated or at least tempered. Fake food consumption is greatly reduced. Unnecessary physician, ER, and medical testing is greatly reduced.

4. The economics of real health are immediately recognized by the patient and their network. Nearly all become aware of the unsustainability of their old ways.

5. GDP is reduced while savings is increased....and is the major reason why this system is not embraced as it is the true solution to most of our current global economic and even geo-political issues. Humanity, health, and a shared symbiotic life experience is restored.

I believe the solution to most of our problems during this time of transformation begin with a return to natural / sustainable health. Currently a growing majority are seeking these answers, yet a major problem remaining is a lack of collaboration among healthcare providers. Chiropractors only adjust, nutritionists only provide dietary guidelines, medical doctors only prescribe, and yet all still typically suffer from some form of somewhat delayed chronic illness, as they remain toxic and imbalanced, and without the other modalities and life balancing needs they may need aside from their own speciality. A collaborative system is needed, built on foundation of strong investigative science but embracing natural health balancing methods and of all modalities, those both ancient and modern. Currently our increasing toxicity and biochemical imbalance issues are of great concern, and should be the focus of the current 'mainstream' physicians, while reserving drug and surgery based care for emergency / acute care, and all the while embracing other health practitioners to apply their modalities as appropriate. As often well described by a fellow spiritual and emotional healer, we need all four tires balanced to drive straight: biochemical, spiritual, emotional, and electro-structural.

With a return to natural sustainable health and thus a way of life, true human nature returns and along with it, a reduced need for greed, corruption, and a drive to fill the void of 'lack' that poor health creates. This has an impact on geopolitical union and symbiosis among cultures. With natural health and balance comes freedom, creativity, and an inner peace that restores human compassion and happiness, instead of strife and conflict. The need to 'conquer and control' is diminished, as the desire to live and thrive is created.

It is possible and already at work among a few, however when it will be adopted as key to our way of life is anyones guess. Most likely as with all things, we won't change until we reach the brink...which is fast approaching in many ways.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

Guest Post - How to Cut America's Healthcare Spending by 50%

A recent follow up on the CHS website with a promising and wishful plan for reduced healthcare costs WITHIN THE CURRENT SYSTEM.

As stated after this article, I will post my response to this later this week, why it is highly unlikely to happen, and what will ultimately be necessary to restore natural sanity to healthcare in our view.

Thanks as always Charles for your insightful and relevant work.

http://www.oftwominds.com/blogaug12/cut-healthcare-in-half8-12.html

The current sickcare system is financially unsustainable. Physician correspondent "Ishabaka" proposes practical ways we could cut costs by 50% while improving care.
Since sickcare is fiscally and demographically unsustainable, it will eventually be replaced by something that is sustainable. Our only choice is to either let the current system collapse and then start pondering sustainable alternatives, or begin an honest discussion of sustainable alternatives before sickcare implodes in insolvency.

In the spirit of openly discussing a variety of sustainable, systemic healthcare options, we present this essay by correspondent "Ishabaka" M.D. on how to cut our current (18% of GDP) healthcare spending by 50%. Ishabaka received training in Canada, so he has direct knowledge of the Canadian system from the inside. Having spent decades as a primary-care and emergency room physician in the U.S., he also has deep knowledge of the U.S. sickcare system from the point of view of a care provider to under-served (i.e. uninsured) Americans.

Here is Ishabaka's essay:

Some time ago I told you how I could cut health care costs in half and provide every American with the healthcare they need (not necessarily the healthcare they want!). Here goes. Some of my points might seem drastic, but we are facing a drastic problem.
1. Immediately introduce national healthcare for all Americans ( and ONLY American citizens and H1B visa holders ) which will be paid for by an immediate TAX INCREASE.

2. Like Canada, this will cover all doctor's office, E.R., clinic, hospital etc. visits. Unlike Canada (the biggest mistake Canada made), there WILL BE co-pays for routine office visits and visits to the E.R. that are NOT serious emergencies.

Here is why Canada's no co-pay system is wrong. A family physician friend of mine in London, Ontario had a family in her practice. The little girl got an ear ache, with a low-grade fever on a Saturday. The mother took her to an E.R. and got an antibiotic prescription. On Sunday the girl was feeling better with no fever, but the mother took her to a walk in clinic "Just to make sure everything was all right". The doctor said "Yes". On Monday the mother took her daughter, who was now feeling fine, to my friend's practice "Just to make sure the other doctors knew what they were doing". The ear infection was cured.

That was two totally unnecessarily visits the Canadian tax payers paid for, and the first visit should have been to the walk-in clinic, which is much cheaper than the E.R.

Co-pays have to be meaningful - not too much to dissuade patients from necessary care, but enough to make them think. That should apply to all aspects of healthcare.

Let me give you another example - right now, where I live, a basic ambulance ride (no drugs or treatments) is about $500. I have had a patient come in by ambulance for a TOOTHACHE. The paramedics should be able to say "No" and not worry about being sued.

3. Like Britain, every person will choose a primary care provider, who will provide their primary care. Referral to a specialist will require a request for consultation from the primary care doctor. In the U.S., there are no restrictions on seeing specialists who charge twice as much or more than a primary care doctor. I saw a guy who went to an ear nose and throat doctor to have his ear wax cleaned - a procedure any nurse can do!

4. Immediate tort reform. Not quite sure of the details, but I estimate that probably 50% of the tests done in the U.S. are to C.Y.A. against malpractice suits, and are medically unnecessary. What would probably be best would be a no-fault system. You are injured by the health care system, you are compensated a REASONABLE amount for your injuries, regardless of who was or wasn't at fault. You aren't really injured, you get nothing. This could be handled by arbitration panels which would take the lawyers out of the system.

Right now, it takes on average $50,000 to defend a doctor against a frivolous lawsuit - the doctor wins, but still $50,000 is down the drain. On the other hand I was involved in a suit where a patient died due to real negligence on the part of two doctors and the family lost the lawsuit and got nothing. This would cut malpractice premiums by at least 1/2 and drastically reduce the amount of testing.

5. We spend WAY TOO MUCH money on end of life care. We have to get together as a society and decide what we will and will not provide for end of life patients, and that doesn't just mean cancer patients, it also applies to end of life heart failure patients, emphysema patients, etc.

For example, a reputable study in The New England Journal of Medicineshowed 0% survival from treatment of cardiac arrest on kidney failure patients on dialysis. Zero. I have had to do numerous "codes" on kidney failure patients on dialysis - they all died. A code costs thousands of dollars. The first code I ever ran was on a 38 year-old accountant having an acute heart attack. In the old days (1960's) I would have simply pronounced him dead. He lived, and was FINE, no brain damage from loss of oxygen, walked out of the hospital a week later and went back to work. That was money well spent. We don't have infinite money. We need to get the most bang for the buck.

The $90,000 chemo drug that extended terminal prostate cancer patients' lives by 6 months should NOT have been paid for by taxpayers' money. Patients who want it should have to pay for it themselves.

6. We have GOT to get the gold-bricks off disability and workmen's comp. If we did, we could put the truly disabled and injured-on-the-job folks in suites in the Ritz Carlton with 24 hour nursing and rehab care! It is mind boggling to see how many gold-bricks there are.

I really liked the system in Ontario, Canada. Any primary care doctor could certify a patient as disabled or off work for up to two months. After that, the patients had to be seen by a panel of specialists paid by the government. They had NO INCENTIVE to either certify the patients as disabled/unable to work or not. To make these specialists truly independent they should be salaried - and the government CANNOT fire them except for the reasons that would cause them to lose their license (sex with a patient, drug addiction, etc.).

7. All advertising immediately banned. We go back to the 70's. No doctor, hospital, clinic, drug company, can advertise to patients. Period.

8. All new drugs have to be compared to existing drugs (if there is a similar existing drug). ONLY if they prove superior to existing drugs should the FDA approve them. Every time a new drug is invented, all the other pharma companies copy it, change a molecule or two, and then study it compared to PLACEBO. We end up with 20 drugs that do the same thing. It's ridiculous.

9. Get rid of fraud and abuse - for real. This means doctors AND patients. You get caught committing health care fraud you pay in fines THREE TIMES what you stole, and spend a minimum of ONE YEAR IN JAIL OR PRISON. This is crucial - fraudsters MUST be made to do time.

Everybody's charges get audited by an independent panel. You charge for patients you didn't see, or wheelchairs you never provided to patients - you go to jail. It must be recognized that nobody is perfect, mistakes happen. A doctor accidentally charges for a patient they didn't see once in five years is not fraud - it's a mistake.

In the same way, patients caught "doctor shopping" for narcotics and selling them pay three times what they made and go to jail for a year. Same for patients selling blood pressure pills (this is a big racket for Medicaid patients) - doctors are usually suspicious of healthy looking patients seeking narcotics, but see a Medicaid patient who is on expensive blood pressure pills, says they ran out and can't contact their doctor - they will usually get a prescription. You can make a nice income on welfare doing this.

10. Eliminate health insurance companies, except for people who want to buy extraordinary coverage like for the $90,000 prostate cancer drugs. Do like we did in Ontario - fee for service with the fees paid by taxpayers via a Department of Health, the fees negotiated annually by either state or national medical associations.

11. Electronic medical records THAT WORK. Right now we are in the "pre-internet" era of EMR. There are a thousand different ones, they are very expensive, doctors pay the full amount, and NONE OF THEM CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER. I worked for a long time in an ER in Florida in an area where elderly people from the north came to winter. They would get sick all the time and come in not knowing their allergies, meds, or medical history. It was a nightmare. If I hear "I'm on a little white pill for blood pressure" one more time I may scream!

With a national standard EMR I could find everything I needed to know with a few mouse clicks. It will be a disaster if this info is stolen or hacked, so the punishment must be severe - TEN YEARS in prison WITHOUT PAROLE, and a hefty fine. No excuses. Set up something with Interpol and the UN so this applies to all countries. And, since EMRs would benefit patients, doctors, and the entire country, doctors and hospitals pay half, the government pays the other half.

12. Get rid of the bad docs/nurses/hospitals/ etc. I'll just speak for the docs here - there are two kinds of bad docs - ones who are bad usually due to lack of knowledge or drugs/alcohol but WANT to be good, and those who are bad and don't care. The second ones are immediately banned from healthcare for life. The first group gets extensive education/rehab, whatever they need. Then close monitoring. In my experience, most of them will turn out to be good docs. A few won't, and get banned from healthcare for life.

13. Finally, immediately outlaw high fructose corn syrup and foods made with trans fats. We know they are poisonous. Again, minimum one year prison for the CEO and board of directors of any company that violates this law, whether it's a mom and pop shop or Kellogs or McDonalds.

That's it, except for a few tweaks. Fifty percent cheaper, everyone gets what they need.

Thank you, Ishabaka. Here is a story Ishabaka sent recently that highlights the consequences of fast-food on human health:

This is an article from the July 2, 2012 issue of Circulation, the journal of The American Heart Association. It shows how frequency of eating fast food per week increases the risk of heart attack - up to 80% if eaten four or more times per week! This is a highly respected medical journal, not some crackpot website.

Western-Style Fast Food Intake and Cardio-Metabolic Risk in an Eastern (Asian) Country.

Conclusion: "Western-style fast food intake is associated with increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and of chronic heart disease (CHD) mortality in an eastern (Asian) population."

Thanks as always Charles and Ishabaka for informative and relevant discussions of our most pressing issues.

My reply will be posted later in the week, and addresses that while this would be an encouraging scenario, it will likely never happen.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

The Future of HealthCare - the NMF 'Health ASSURANCE' Program.

Another well timed and relevant article from Charles Hugh Smith....describing exactly what is happening at NMF.

Lower your acute care costs while restoring and MAINTAINING your health with our HEALTH ASSURANCE program. This will replace excessive 'Health Insurance' for insuring sickness around the world.

Thank you CHS.

A Sustainable National Healthcare System: Prevention Only
 (August 20, 2012)

The current sickcare system will bankrupt the nation. One model of a sustainable national system would focus solely on providing preventative care.
Longtime readers know that I have presented various options to our costly (and therefore doomed) sickcare system. I have suggested a "cash only" system (The "Impossible" Healthcare Solution: Go Back to Cash July 29, 2009), and observed that the Veterans Administration (VA)offers a model for a national opt-in healthcare system that would offer an alternative to the hopelessly corrupt "fee for service" sickcare (Healthcare: A Large-Scale Solution January 4, 2011).

Stripped of purposefully obscuring complexity, sickcare is a system of State-sanctioned cartel skimming that redistributes the wealth of many to the hands of a few. There are many potentially sustainable alternatives, but regardless of the options offered, it is self-evident that open competition between transparent systems is necessary to provide cost discipline and encourage innovation.

In other words, one size cannot fit all, and the broader the spectrum of transparent opt-in choices, the greater the cost discipline and incentives for innovation.

Healthcare is one of those peculiarly ideological topics where people tend to conceptualize all choices as either/or: either a system is "socialized" or it is "free market" (code name for cartel skimming controlled by the State). The idea that a system of multiple options, complementary and competitive, might be the most sustainable, is difficult for many to conceptualize, much less accept.

Advocates of the Central State taking a dominant role in healthcare bear the responsibility of explaining what will limit the capture of the State's spending and power by wealthy vested interests, a process of corruption that would quickly turn any "new" system into the same crony-capitalist, unaffordable system we now have.

Apologists for the present system of State-sanctioned cartel skimming claim that Medicare, Medicaid and ObamaCare are all sustainable with what amounts to modest policy tweaks. There is scant evidence for this claim; indeed, the one thing we know is that the promises issued to the 306 million residents of the U.S. are claims on future national income and surplus that cannot possibly be met, and magical projections of unending "growth" and unlimited borrowing power for generations to come are fantasies.

Since sickcare is unsustainable, it will eventually be replaced by something that is sustainable. Our only choice is to either let the current system collapse and then start pondering sustainable alternatives, or begin an honest discussion of sustainable alternatives before sickcare implodes in insolvency.

In this spirit of openly discussing a variety of sustainable options, we present this essay by correspondent Lonn Gary Schwartz, O.D. Dr. Schwartz makes a compelling case for the view that the only truly affordable, sustainable national system is one that provides preventative healthcare only.

Here is Dr. Schwartz's essay:

The decades-long health care crisis we continue to experience in the United States is multi-faceted and highly complex, touching every U.S. citizen and every American institution. Despite the complexities, getting to the root of the problem simply requires us to confront the following realities.
First and foremost, we can not, nor will we ever be able to arrest the aging process, eliminate illness, nor avoid death. Despite what the myriad of “Eternal Fountain of Youth,” industries puts forward, these very events define what it is to be part of the organic life-cycle on this planet.

Therefore, it would seem that we, as a society, need to let go of the illusion that we can circumvent the natural order of things.

Secondly, each individual needs to take primary responsibility for his/her own health [care]. No more dependence on having others bail us out of poor life choices [insufficient exercise, poor diet, unstable mental/emotional/spiritual states]. No more squandering the nation’s wealth on highly destructive lifestyles and their outrageously expensive antidotes.

Additionally, and believe it or not, the amount of social wealth that can be allocated to health care is finite. We can no longer tolerate insurance companies acting as health commissars, corporations that are a hideous synthesis of investment banker, tax collector, medical policy and decision maker, and grand financializer, indeed, the worst of all worlds.

If we well-understand that ignoring basic vehicular maintenance leads to pre-mature wear, mechanical breakdown, and expensive repair costs, why do so many of us fail to acknowledge that a similar outcome is inevitable when it comes to our bodies?

Although volumes can be produced attempting to figure out why people do what they do [regarding their health habits], social policy need not be concerned with the reasons, but only insure that individuals take personal responsibility for their actions, and not necessarily because it will result in a better [health] outcomes or a more productive citizenry, but instead, because there are simply no other fiscally sustainable alternatives.

The current health care system is geared to heal, repair and/or replace. Attempting to repair and re-fabricate body parts on every American within the context of the current explosion in technologic potentiality is absurd.

Imagine the possibilities when considering the varieties medical technologies already in place; transplantation, bio-mechanics [robotics], genetic engineering, and pharmacologic, to name a few. Soon enough, you will be able to spend nearly unlimited amounts of money keeping just one person alive!

The solution? There is only one solution and that is prevention only. And although this may seem harsh upon first consideration, it certainly seems to be closer to what Nature intended for all of Her life-forms. Regardless, it is what it is.

Whatever resources can be allocated to health care [within the context of a fiscally responsible government], should be earmarked to prevention, that is, actual health care.

If, by chance [or misfortune], you happen to contract a disease/develop a condition/be subject to an accident, then you are in the same position as people are today when there are no known treatments available.

What would probably be available are low-cost conventional, alternative, and natural remedies, provided by individuals or small businesses, and payable in cash.

In order to prevent a similar sick-care system from being resurrected, health care must be de-institutionalized. No more insurance companies, no more Big Pharma, no more corporate super hospital systems designed to turn natural events into mega-profits for the few and fiscal bankruptcy for the rest. After all, all of these institutions presently exist only through government decree.

The results of a de-centralized system will be fiscal sanity, individual responsibility, and hopefully, a much healthier population. This is not to deny that a move toward sanity in one respect will not cause much pain and adjustment in others, but the development of just social policy must have [at its core] compassion, personal responsibility, and sustainability driving the process.

Just as the welfare state could not save everybody from the natural forces of human social interaction, or give unqualified people mortgages in order to allow them to live “a better life,” we cannot promise to save everybody from the inevitabilities of our own natural life-cycle.

Getting beyond this era of counterfeit debt-money, and the resulting fiscal insanity it has guaranteed, will require the acceptance of principles that were once very much a part of who we were as Americans.

We must accept that just as real wealth is created by producing, saving, and investment guided by the principles of transparent risk/reward assessment, our good health must also be earned through sensible eating habits, adequate exercise, and some method of maintaining mental/emotional/spiritual balance.

Better times lie ahead for those willing to take responsibility for their own wealth and their own health. After all, it is the American way.

Thank you, Dr. Schwartz. The demographic and fiscal cliff are real. Hoping that we can borrow our way to prosperity by dumping trillions of dollars into fraud, malinvestment and needless, counterproductive paperwork, tests, medications, lawsuits and procedures (i.e. sickcare) is the path to insolvency and a future that fails everyone.

In related news, Otis Brawley, M.D. recently laid bare the ill health of our healthcare system in his book How We Do Harm: A Doctor Breaks Ranks About Being Sick in America (Kindle) (print)

"I blame patients, I blame doctors, I blame hospitals, I blame drug companies, I blame insurance companies. Our health care system is messed up because the system is designed to fail, and everybody is responsible for health care failing as it is now." Dr. Otis Brawley

Contact the New Medicine Foundation at 888-561-4325 to inquire about natural health maintenance and chronic illness prevention....a true Preventive HealthCare System....for the future of humanity and sustainability.

Another excellent health related article by friend and colleague Charles Hugh Smith. Charles is one of our personal sources of clarity in world events and transformation. He efficiently delivers as always the utmost importance of overall natural health moving forward, and its direct relation to personal and sovereign financial issues. We agree 100% on his views, but feel that what is lacking is the direct steps, the protocols, the actual 'What do I do know?' solutions for people when the light bulb turns on to how important regaining their health is.

Thank you as always Charles, your guidance is much appreciated in these interesting and transformative times.

Best in health,

Dr Edward

http://www.oftwominds.com/blogaug12/exerciseA8-12.html

Health is Wealth: Prevention, Fitness and Strength (August 1, 2012)

Today we start a multi-day series on improving health via prevention, fitness and strength.
Longtime readers know that I consider health (physical and mental) the key attribute of wealth and prosperity. Without health, then what good is your other "wealth"?

Readers also know that I consider "a healthy home-cooked meal a revolutionary act" because the Status Quo encourages chronic disease and ill-health. Why? 1) managing these conditions is immensely and enduringly profitable to the sickcare cartels and 2) weak, sickly, drugged-out citizens are easily manipulated politically and are too overwhelmed by their multiple chronic health issues to actively challenge the Status Quo.

I know that this sounds inflammatory to many of you, but for whatever reason oftwominds.com has attracted a very large readership of physicians, nurses and other caregivers, and the people who work in the trenches of the sickcare system are inevitably supportive of these "inflammatory" summations.

Sickcare is not sustainable financially, and so it will devolve and collapse, along with other unsustainable systems. I expect healthcare to slowly revert to cash-only if you want immediate care, with all other care becoming increasingly unavailable. Therefore prevention will be the key to well-being going forward, not hyper-expensive care that costs $100,000 for a few days of treatment.

In all my diverse reading about the science of human health, a few "obvious" things pop out.

1) Humans have a remarkable ability to prosper on a variety of real foods.
2) Processed foods are associated with "modern" diseases.
3) Chronic inactivity, stress and a diet of processed foods are associated with chronic inflammation.
4) Chronic inflammation is associated with a number of chronic diseases.
5) The only "miracle drug" is regular exercise combined with sleep, which is associated with exercise, good nutrition and stress reduction.
6) The mind and body are one. Mental health and physical health are related.

We cannot stave off all disease, of course, and many of us will need surgery or other major intervention regardless of our diet and fitness levels, but the point is that fitness and a common-sense diet of real, unprocessed foods make up about 2/3 of our "health metric" with genetics and the environment contributing perhaps a third.

The 80/20 rule may apply here (Pareto Distribution): achieving 20% of what's possible may reap 80% of the gain. For example, being able to jog 2 miles may reap 80% of the gain, while running 10 miles yields a diminishing health return and may even damage older runners.

This is of course inexact, but that's the rough proportions.

Increasing strength may provide an example of this: relatively infrequent short-duration intense exercise seems to increase strength and maintain it without daily workouts. In other words, it doesn't take much time to significantly improve one's strength.

Longtime correspondent Steve R. recently shared his own experiences with increasing muscular strength. Here is Steve's report:

Summary
"Over about six weeks, I increased my overall muscular strength by 35%, by doing nothing more than a total of four 12-minute, very-intense workouts.

Background

Over the past couple of years, I have been reading that much of the effort that most people put into exercise is wasted or even counter-productive, because they are missing the key ingredients of intensity and rest. The evidence coming into focus for me was that high intensity interval training (H.I.I.T.) was the quickest, most effective path toward cardiovascular fitness.

Long ago, I had learned that adequate rest is essential for weight training: i.e., never exercising any given muscle group more often than once per week. Recently, I ran across the book Body by Science: A Research Based Program to Get the Results You Want in 12 Minutes a Week (McGuff and Little), which presents a strong case for a 12-minute-only strength training workout, with about 7-10 days of rest between trips to the gym. I know it sounds crazy, but the authors back it up with their knowledge of physiology, their understanding of evolution, tons of studies, and their own clinical experiences (they are both trainers). The results I got are typical of their customers.

The Workout

The workout consists of one 60-90-second set of each of five core exercises (leg press, underhand pulldown, overhead press, seated row, and chest press), moving from machine to machine as quickly as possible (no more than 30 seconds between machines). Each set is performed super-slow (6-10 seconds up; 6-10 seconds down) to prevent momentum cheating, and the weight should be chosen so that you "go to failure" (i.e., at the end of each set, you can't possibly do another rep). Doing the math shows that each set consists of about 5 reps. Only five sets of only five reps, for the entire workout, sounds easy, but trust me, the intensity near the end will kick your butt.

Measuring My Results

I was careful to "compare apples to apples" when determining my gains. In other words, I didn't do fluff workouts early on in order to pad the results. The data show consistent 9% gains between successive 100%-effort workouts. I am very confident that the numbers are correct and that the gains are legitimate.

Simplified Theory

The body adapts to an increased demand put upon it so that it can better meet that demand in the future. The idea is to give it a strong stimulus, followed by plenty of time to let it recover back to baseline, plus a small amount of growth. Experiments show that it takes 7-10 days for optimal growth to occur, much like the time the body needs to heal a cut. Resting less than 7 days thwarts the body's efforts to repair itself, like ripping a scab off before the cut is fully healed, leading to poor results, more injuries, and perhaps chronic stress. My average rest was 11 days."

This was very interesting to me on a number of fronts, and I replied thusly:

"Thank you for sharing your experience--it confirms my own intuitive sense of what works, as I tend to do pushups and sit-ups several times a week with biking and running interspersed throughout the week. I keep track and was surprised that a week between pushups did not really degrade the number I can do in one set (36).
In terms of natural selection, this also makes sense. Hunters would more than likely only need bursts of strength or speed occasionally, and the body would thus maximize to occasional strength-building, as expending calories daily just to maintain muscle mass would be very ‘costly’ in evolutionary terms—why burn valuable calories unless there was a big yield?"

Steve added these comments on the natural-selection context:

"I think you're dead-on with your thoughts on natural selection. That seems to be the consensus among the top exercise people I listen to. Our ancestors probably didn't look like body builders, because like you said, excess muscle is too costly in terms of precious calories. This also dovetails with the emerging theory that traditional "cardio", especially too much, may actually be harmful. There are lots of people on the Amazon review/comment section for Body By Science that say something like, "Aerobics ruined my knees" or similar. It seems that short bursts of high-intensity exercise are the most effective. And I think for most people, distance running is very harmful - especially marathoners."

Thank you, Steve for sharing your experiences. I agree with Steve about "overdoing it." In typical American fashion (or is it human nature as well?), some people get obsessed with diet, fitness, etc. and go to extraordinary lengths, many of which end up being harmful simply because they are excessive.

The "middle path" may be the way to go in terms of fitness and prevention.

To give you a taste of what is possible in fitness as we age, here is a video clip of an 86-year woman performing a parallel-bars routine.

Mens Health Simplified.....From Prostates to Potency

With the recent dilemmas in our failing healthcare system, a topic that we have touched on several times within our articles and videos has been the poor handling of men's health.

Recently, the powers that be in the pharmaceutical and surgery based system decided that the use of the PSA test, or Prostate Specific Antigen, should be be discarded from mens health screening.

It has been the view of NMF from the beginning that PSA tests were misused and most often led to the very inhumane and aggressive treatment of prostate issues in men. From the offensive and embarrassing prostate digital exam to the extreme toxicity and invasiveness of prostate biopsies and radical prostatectomies, the PSA lab test has led to a horrible track record of men's health abuse over the last few decades.

So while it is a move in the right direction to stop using the PSA to screen for the progression of treatments the way they have been, PSA remains a good test to use to simply assess mens prostate health, and we should not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

PSA is a marker that becomes elevated when men's prostates are unhealthy, enlarged, or irritated. It is an easy and accurate marker to assess if a prostate is healthy, or not. It does become elevated commonly these days as men age, as the underlying biochemical imbalances that are so common in our world of chronic illness epidemic are a surety for men, unless they take their health into their own hands and use naturally balancing preventive testing and treatment as we do at NMF.

So while we do NOT agree with invasive testing and treatment of prostates (or any organ for that matter), we DO agree that checking PSA is a good way to check in on our prostates from time to time. When elevated, there will be other common biochemical issues at cause that should be corrected, such as elevated Estrogen / Testosterone ratios, nutritional deficiencies, elevated DHT or toxicity issues.

When these imbalances are easily found, they are easily reversed, and with naturally balancing treatment elevated PSA levels correct quickly as prostate, and Male health in general, is restored.

In doing so we not only ensure a healthy prostate, but healthy sexual and urinary function, heart health, brain health, and more. We improve stamina, vitality, and vigor while preventing not only prostate cancer, but cardiovascular disease, alzheimers and more.

In these days of failing health it is very empowering for men to know they can maintain their male health and vibrance and continue to 'be a man' and 'man up' for themselves and their families.

And while it is good to see that modern medicine has realized the errors in their ways of treating prostates over the last few decades, the traditional system is still far from providing men with true health and real illness prevention.

As a man, I feel this is of the utmost importance to other men, husbands, and especially fathers.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

The HCG: Diet Dilemma

The Hcg Diet: Is it Really a Dilemma?

HCG has been grabbing the attention of dieters around the world with promises of dropping pounds quickly. But with the promises also come a lot of questions about whether it’s effective and safe.

HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and is produced by pregnant women. It’s supposed to release fat from your body so you can use it as fuel, meaning you need fewer calories and lose less muscle mass.

For me, as a new patient, my fiance and I are looking forward to the adventure.

We did a lot of research and have chosen Dr. Edward Pearson as our physician for this protocol.

We have gone through quite a lot of information and will be starting the second week of June, 2012.

One of the articles we read had this testimonial.

"Huntsville resident Kylie Smith is a big fan of HCG. She had tried a number of other products, many making her shaky and uncomfortable. She thought she’d give HCG a try after her friend had luck on the diet. Kylie got her HCG through a diet practitioner. She took drops three times a day and was only allowed a 500 calorie diet from a very specific menu. But she says she was never hungry. “I felt great! I felt it was more like a cleanse.” Kylie adds, “I woke up in the morning before my alarm; I wasn’t tired.” Kylie lost 40 pounds in a year.

Dr. Zach LaBoube has a franchise that uses HCG to help patients lose weight and says there’s a big difference between the prescription and homeopathic HCG.

LaBoube explains, “The prescription HCG is compounded at pharmacies across the country. It’s a bioidentical hormone which means it’s an exact replica of the real HCG that’s produced by a pregnant woman.”

LaBoube says the homeopathic version is much weaker. He says it’s a combination of small concentrations of the HCG hormone and then, generally, a combination of B vitamins and other things that spark the metabolism a bit. He says, “They’re two completely different products.”

You can go to your local Walmart and find homeopathic HCG on the shelves. You can also find it all over the internet, but you don’t always know what’s in it." Source: http://whnt.com/2012/05/01/hcg-diet-dilemma/

What separated Dr. Pearson from all other options we found was the fact that he requires lab results from blood and saliva tests to determine the proper protocol for each individual. This was big for us.

Next, we made the decision to use the injection process as this was much more effective than drops. The injections will be using bioidenticals...another huge plus. No synthetics.

Finally, we were prescribed hormone therapy along with vitamin supplements which were instructed to start about 2 weeks before the program.

Our coach, Autumn Heyman from A Voice For Change, insructed us to start the vitamins early. Their research has shown that this will allow an easier transition for the body during detox.

Erin and I will be submitting videos and a daily and or weekly blog and update on our experience. I will also be developing an exercise program for Erin and I during this process. This will be adaptable to anyone in any kind of shape.

Talk soon and we will soon be providing blogs/articles and videos on our experience.

Regards, Scott & Erin

Dairy Information From NutritionMD - Live a Healthy Life
An excellent standalone article from NutritionMD. Thanks to Patty J for this excellent post.

Understanding the Problems with Dairy Products

Many Americans, including some vegetarians, still consume large amounts of dairy products. Here are eight great reasons to eliminate dairy products from your diet.

1. Osteoporosis

Milk is touted for preventing osteoporosis, yet clinical research shows otherwise. The Harvard Nurses’ Health Study,1 which followed more than 75,000 women for 12 years, showed no protective effect of increased milk consumption on fracture risk. In fact, increased intake of calcium from dairy products was associated with a higher fracture risk. An Australian study2 showed the same results. Additionally, other studies3-4 have also found no protective effect of dairy calcium on bone. You can decrease your risk of osteoporosis by reducing sodium and animal protein intake in the diet,5-7 increasing intake of fruits and vegetables,8 exercising,9 and ensuring adequate calcium intake from plant foods such as leafy green vegetables and beans, as well as calcium-fortified products such as breakfast cereals and juices.

2. Cardiovascular Disease

Dairy products—including cheese, ice cream, milk, butter, and yogurt—contribute significant amounts of cholesterol and fat to the diet.10 Diets high in fat and saturated fat can increase the risk of several chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease. A low-fat vegetarian diet that eliminates dairy products, in combination with exercise, smoking cessation, and stress management, can not only prevent heart disease, but may also reverse it.11 Non-fat dairy products are available; however, they pose other health risks as noted below.

3. Cancer

Several cancers, such as ovarian cancer, have been linked to the consumption of dairy products. The milk sugar lactose is broken down in the body into another sugar, galactose. In turn, galactose is broken down further by enzymes. According to a study by Daniel Cramer, M.D., and his colleagues at Harvard,12 when dairy product consumption exceeds the enzymes’ capacity to break down galactose, it can build up in the blood and may affect a woman’s ovaries. Some women have particularly low levels of these enzymes, and when they consume dairy products on a regular basis, their risk of ovarian cancer can be triple that of other women.

Breast and prostate cancers have also been linked to consumption of dairy products, presumably related, at least in part, to increases in a compound called insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I).13-15 IGF-I is found in cow’s milk and has been shown to occur in increased levels in the blood by individuals consuming dairy products on a regular basis.16 Other nutrients that increase IGF-I are also found in cow’s milk. A recent study showed that men who had the highest levels of IGF-I had more than four times the risk of prostate cancer compared with those who had the lowest levels.14

4. Diabetes

Insulin-dependent diabetes (Type I or childhood-onset) is linked to consumption of dairy products. Epidemiological studies of various countries show a strong correlation between the use of dairy products and the incidence of insulin-dependent diabetes.17,18 Researchers in 199218 found that a specific dairy protein sparks an auto-immune reaction, which is believed to be what destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas.

5. Lactose Intolerance

Lactose intolerance is common among many populations, affecting approximately 95 percent of Asian Americans, 74 percent of Native Americans, 70 percent of African Americans, 53 percent of Mexican Americans, and 15 percent of Caucasians.19 Symptoms, which include gastrointestinal distress, diarrhea, and flatulence, occur because these individuals do not have the enzymes that digest the milk sugar lactose. Additionally, along with unwanted symptoms, milk-drinkers are also putting themselves at risk for development of other chronic diseases and ailments.

6. Vitamin D Toxicity

Consumption of milk may not provide a consistent and reliable source of vitamin D in the diet. Samplings of milk have found significant variation in vitamin D content, with some samplings having had as much as 500 times the indicated level, while others had little or none at all.20,21 Too much vitamin D can be toxic and may result in excess calcium levels in the blood and urine, increased aluminum absorption in the body, and calcium deposits in soft tissue.

7. Contaminants

Synthetic hormones such as recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) are commonly used in dairy cows to increase the production of milk.13 Because the cows are producing quantities of milk nature never intended, the end result is mastitis, or inflammation of the mammary glands. The treatment requires the use of antibiotics, and traces of these and hormones have been found in samples of milk and other dairy products. Pesticides and other drugs are also frequent contaminants of dairy products.

8. Health Concerns of Infants and Children

Milk proteins, milk sugar, fat, and saturated fat in dairy products may pose health risks for children and lead to the development of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and formation of athersclerotic plaques that can lead to heart disease.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that infants below one year of age not be given whole cow’s milk, as iron deficiency is more likely on a dairy-rich diet. Cow’s milk products are very low in iron. If they become a major part of one’s diet, iron deficiency is more likely.10 Colic is an additional concern with milk consumption. One out of every five babies suffers from colic. Pediatricians learned long ago that cows’ milk was often the reason. We now know that breastfeeding mothers can have colicky babies if the mothers are consuming cow’s milk. The cows’ antibodies can pass through the mother’s bloodstream into her breast milk and to the baby.22 Additionally, food allergies appear to be common results of milk consumption, particularly in children. A recent study23 also linked cow’s milk consumption to chronic constipation in children. Researchers suggest that milk consumption resulted in perianal sores and severe pain on defecation, leading to constipation.

Milk and dairy products are not necessary in the diet and can, in fact, be harmful to your health. Consume a healthful diet of grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and fortified foods including cereals and juices. These nutrient-dense foods can help you meet your calcium, potassium, riboflavin, and vitamin D requirements with ease—and without the health risks.

http://www.nutritionmd.org/nutrition_tips/nutrition_tips_understand_foods/dairy.html

Be Well,

Dr Edward

Another perfectly stated article with wise words from an active and healthy 58 year old.

Following this advice on healthy living, plus common sense scientifically guided healthcare from NMF to restore the key nutritional and hormonal deficiencies, and keep an eye on internal biochemical balance and health, is all it takes to live a healthy life free from the financial burdens of chronic illness.

Thanks as always Charles.

http://us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u=d7ee5db74404cedc5e4bba858&id=b0b7fa35d1&e=84f4854776

<table border="0" font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; line-height: 21px; text-align: left; font-family: Arial; ">Longtime readers know that I consider health (physical and mental) a key attribute of wealth, prosperity and well-being.

I know that this sounds inflammatory to many of you, but for whatever reason oftwominds.com has attracted a very large readership of physicians, nurses and other caregivers, and the people who work in the trenches of the sickcare system are inevitably supportive of my critiques of sickcare.

But sickcare is not sustainable financially, and so it will devolve and collapse, along with other unsustainable systems.

This is of course inexact, but those are the rough proportions.

The 80/20 rule may apply here (Pareto Distribution): achieving 20% of what's possible may reap 80% of the gain. For example, being able to jog 2 miles may reap 80% of the fitness gain, while running 10 miles yields a diminishing health return and may even damage older runners.

My own goals for fitness are lofty, not in the sense of being able to lift great weight or ripple with muscles, but in acheiving "the complete package" which I define as endurance, speed, agility, balance, strength. By "speed" I mean the ability to sprint for a meaningful distance on a bicycle or on foot and the speed of defensive reaction, punches and kicks. I have not yet reached my goals in each category, but progress is being made (recall I am 58 years old). As older readers know, fitness becomes more difficult even as it becomes more important as we grow older.

I could easily launch off into epigenetics here, but instead I want to share the strength-building experience of longtime correspondent Steve R. Here is Steve's report:

Summary

Over about six weeks, I increased my overall muscular strength by 35%, by doing nothing more than a total of four 12-minute, very-intense workouts.

Recently, I ran across the book Body By Science (McGuff and Little), which presents a strong case for a 12-minute-only strength training workout, with about 7-10 days of rest between trips to the gym.

I keep track and was surprised that a week between pushups did not really degrade the number I can do in one set (35-40).

I'd like to thank Steve for sharing his experiences with me and thus with you.
<div style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80); font-size: 14px; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none;
Dr. Oz is asking the right questions about hCG...

And we have the answers.

1.	hCG is best described as a protein, not a hormone.

2.	The hCG protocol is best described as a detoxification protocol and not a weight loss protocol.

3.	Studies by the FDA and others have been inconclusive for decades, primarily because the hCG is not being prepared nor prescribed in the right way. Additionally, much of the truths in the food components of the program have been lost along the way.

4.	The hCG protocol should NOT be prescribed without thorough medical testing and clearance, nor without medical guidance and monitoring.

5.	There are numerous hormonal and nutritional deficiencies in most people today that MUST be uncovered with testing and corrected when prescribing the hCG protocol. Even with the gold standard NMF hCG protocol, these deficiencies can and will get worse without accurate biochemical testing and balancing.

6.	Homeopathic hCG, or 'drops', is based only on the energy or vibrating frequency of hCG, and thus has absolutely NO hCG in the preparations and SHOULD NOT BE USED. The FDA is right in banning these products as they lead to starvation and catabolism, as well as metabolic and thyroid slowing.

7.	Nearly all of the medically prescribed hCG in the United States is prepared incorrectly and is thus ineffective. This is why the FDA approved studies show the protocol to be ineffective. This will most likely happen again unless the appropriate steps are taken to prepare the protocol correctly.

8.	Organic foods are imperative to the protocol, as detoxification of the chemicals in inorganic foods is the entire purpose of the program.

9.	Skilled medical monitoring of all other medical conditions and medications is imperative to the safety and efficacy of the protocol.

10.	While the protocol could theoretically benefit anyone in todays increasingly toxic world, it is not medically appropriate to prescribe for the very young or the severely ill. Comprehensive testing and medical clearance and monitoring is key.

Dr. Simeons and his hCG protocol are incredible tools for our increasingly toxic and chronic illness afflicted world. Hopefully very soon these truths about the protocol, how it works, and how to appropriately prescribe and use it will become the worldwide standard.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

Sleeping Pills Linked to Illness.....Surprising?

SYNTHETIC MEDICATIONS ARE NOT GOOD FOR US!

Is this rocket science? We have long said that sleeping medications disconnect the conscious from the subconscious. While we 'appear' to sleep our bodies are actually still functioning subconsciously....hence the frequent reports of 'sleep driving, eating, and walking'!

Interfering with these basic body processes to force / feign sleep is a dangerous practice.

We will continue to find out that ALL medications are extremely dangerous and have many unintended consequences in store for us down the road.

The truth behind the insomnia is hormonal and nutritional deficiencies. These are caused by our increasingly toxic environment and foods. They are WORSENED by these medications that are used for TREATMENT.

Additionally, people treat the resulting fatigue with excesses of even MORE MEDICATIONS, and addictions to sugar, caffeine, and nicotine. This continues to only worsen the underlying problems.

Uncover and restore the underlying deficiencies, carefully remove the excessive medications, and correct and educate the food additions and sleep returns.

REAL sleep, restful, enjoyable, healing sleep.

Its time to wake up (and go to sleep truly) and stop the pill popping, and figure out that returning to natural health is the only choice for our future.

Be Well,

Dr Edward

Dr. Oz and Hypnosis for Weight Loss......Really?

Todays Dr Oz show is on weight loss and hypnosis, which can certainly have benefits.

But until the underlying biochemical imbalance issues are tackled, the obesity epidemic, and all other chronic diseases, will continue to rise. These problems and our ignorance of the true causes are not only undermining our health and vitality, but the entire strength of our nation, and global economy to boot. Failing health and consumptive, toxic, and expensive symptom / disease management is literally putting the future of our species at risk.

The biochemical imbalances rooted in increasing toxicity, and the resultant hormonal imbalances and nutritional deficiencies, are THE foundational causes for obesity and 98% of all chronic illness.

While the science behind uncovering and explaining these issues is complex, the solutions are actually simple, effective, and affordable. The overall result is the savings of at least 1/3 of our national $3T and climbing sick care expenditures.

Why will we not team together and focus on the real problems and turn the sinking ship around, instead of simply talking about 'wonder cures' that provide hope and some profits but no real solutions?

2012 is the year to turn our healthcare system, and the direction of this country, around.

Be well,

Dr Edward
